Blackjack Casino Advice

Here’s a piece of casino advice that might sound like common sense, but I’ll explain why it makes a big difference. It’s customary for players to tip their dealers, be it any form of cards. However, in blackjack, it’s not only sound etiquette, it’s smart strategy, as well.

How? Here’s how.

First of all, and this can be disputed but I’ve witnessed it on more than a few occasions, a well-tipped dealer might shuffle later on in the game than he or she might do if they were just dealing for their hourly salary. This creates a helpful if not intentional advantage for any card-counter at the table. So if you’re there to put some of your card-counting tactics to the test or hone your skills to bring in some cash, keep this in mind.

Second, and this part is common sense, it puts a smile on the blackjack online dealer’s face. And, say it with me, a happy dealer makes for a happy table. Everyone wants to win, and everyone wants to have fun, but remembering to give the dealer their due (you might not think they deserve it, but believe me it makes your life easier at the table if you go with the flow and tip the dealer when you win). Really, though, there’s more to it than just getting to see Mr. Dealer’s pearly whites…odds are they’re yellow from years of second-hand cigarette smoke stains anyway. A happy, well-tipped dealer is also going to be a looser dealer, one that might not be as on guard with hiding his tells than one in a fouler mood. The dealer with a nice tip stack has a little less to worry about, and might just reveal a little more than the casino would prefer, to your advantage.

Many would say blackjack is different from poker. In poker, you’re playing against the other players, not the bank. Whereas in blackjack, you’re squaring off against the dealer. In fact, there are two schools of thought here. For blackjack, why would you tip the very person you’re technically playing against? Of course, in poker, the dealer takes a rake from every hand, so why give extra back to the casino?

In the end, it’s best not to let GoldenPalace logic get in the way of tradition. Especially if you have a girl hanging off your arm. You don’t want to look cheap and you don’t want scowls from the dealer, regardless of the game you’re playing.

Online Casinos vs. Land Based Casinos Guide

A popular discussion around the internet the past few years has been the benefits of online casinos vs. land based casinos and of course the negatives. Today we’re going to look at some of those benefits and negatives of playing in an online casino rather then playing in a land based casino. Everyone will have there own preference of course, but for those of you on the fence this guide should help you make your decision as to which option is better nowadays.

* Both online casinos and land based casinos are open 24/7 and they never close, but the one problem is that with land based casinos you need to travel to the casino whereas with online casinos you can play from your computer anywhere you want. The convenience of being able to play wherever you’d like is much better then having to travel to a land based casino.

* Land based casinos such as The Bellagio don’t really have dress codes so to speak, but they do ensure that everyone is wearing proper clothing. You can’t enter a casino in your boxer shorts, but if you’re playing from your own home then you can wear anything you want while you play. The ability to play in your pyjamas from your own home is a lot more comfortable then having to dress up and play at a land based casino.

* When you play in an online PKR casino you often get a table to yourself unless you’re playing the live games offered by some online casinos. This means that you will be able to play a lot more then you would be able to at a crowded land based casino. For those of you who are trying to make money the ability to play more hands is a better option then playing in a crowded casino.

* Although most mobile casinos have the option of leaving a tip nobody really ever does and you don’t need to feel like you do. When you’re playing at a land based casino you’re expected to tip the dealer every time you win a decent amount. I know that I don’t mind tipping, but at the same time if I don’t need to every time then it’s much better for my bankroll. On average I would say in a day at the casino you would generally lose $50+ in tips to dealers and waitresses whereas you wouldn’t lose that money playing online.

When you’re playing the games to make money there is no doubt that playing online is better not only because the speed is quicker, but also because you don’t lose money travelling to the casino or tipping at the casino. This can add up and you end up saving a decent chunk of money by playing online rather then in a casino which means you’ll profit more.

If you’re looking to have the thrill of playing in a www.PartyPoker.com casino or it’s your first time gambling then I would suggest checking out a casino. A land based casino can offer an experience which online casinos can’t which is why it’s still recommended you check them out from time to time, but on the whole you want to spend most of your time playing online because it’s cheaper and quicker.

Finding and Plugging the PokerStars Leak

From time to time, everyone on PokerStars goes through bad runs at the poker table. Some of us just experience the ugly backside of variance, while others adjust something in our game, which causes our poker game to spring a leak. Whether just on a bad run or running bad, it makes sense to give your play a check-up to determine whether or not your game has sprung a leak.

How to Analyze your Game

For starters, if you are playing poker online, it is far easier to monitor your statistics and win rates than it is by playing live. As a result, I highly recommend obtaining a tracking program to monitor your poker play. PokerOffice and PokerTracker are two reputable and useful tools designed to record and break down your player stats. These programs can be purchased for under $100, and are free (with conditions) on many poker sites. If you do not yet have a poker-tracking program, get one now.

If trying to determine whether I am running bad or playing bad, I open up my stats program, where I look at my statistics, which are broken down based on preflop, flop, turn and river actions. I can see the number of hands where I am voluntarily entering the pot, and additionally I can tell how I am entering the pot (whether via calling, raising, or reraising).

I can also tell how often I am the aggressor on each street – the flop, turn and river. I can look for trends, telling me how often I bet the turn when I raised preflop and made a continuation bet. If my turn aggression is low, but my preflop raise percentage and flop bet percentage is high, it may well be that players will call the continuation knowing that they can see a free river card as well.

Additionally, I can ask my PokerStars.com tracking program to break out the percentage of times I saw the flop voluntarily from every position. If I find I am frequently calling raises from the big blind and folding when on the button, I may be failing to utilize position in the most ideal of manners. I can also use the tracking program to show me how profitable I am playing a given hand, or to see how much money I am losing by being too loose in the blinds.

Essentially, the poker-tracking program can give me all the tools to identify and plug leaks in my game. So, next time you are running bad, open up your stats program and go over your sessions with a fine tooth comb before you write off your bad run as variance.
